Mr Tan Beng Wee

Resident Conductor

Once a French Horn player, Mr Tan joined the Singapore Youth Orchestra and the Singapore Philharmonic Orchestra back in 1974 - 1977 and 1976 - 1977 respectively. He then continued his musical voyage by joining the Republic of Singapore Air Force Band for 4 years. Mr Tan joined Temasek Polytechnic Band in 1990 as a resident conductor and has led the band ever since. 

Mr Tan has performed with the TP Band in various events such as the Band Festival! - National Day Edition, Tampines Wast National Day Dinner, National Day Celebration 2019 @ Temasek Polytechnic Convention Centre, and TP Open House 2020.

Mr Ignatius Wang

Associate Conductor

An alumnus of Temasek Polytechnic Band, Mr Ignatius Wang teaches and supports the students of the band in their musical journey.

 

Mr Wang joined Temasek Polytechnic and the band back in 2007 - 2010.  From there, he continued his journey in music in SAF Central Band in 2011 as Associate Principal Euphonium and was later awarded an SAF scholarship to the Royal Marines School of Music in Portsmouth, United Kingdom.

A recipient of the Distinguished Star, the Bandmasters’ Course Conducting Prize and the Baldwin’s Award for Best Conductor, Ignatius was the first international student to attain Director of Music qualification from His Majesty's Royal Marines Band Service. In 2015, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Schools of Music (Music Direction).

Apart from his formal studies, Mr Wang was closely mentored by Bjørn Sagstad, Darrell Ang, Douglas Bostock, Nicholas Childs, Tan Beng Wee, Timothy Reynish and Tsung Yeh - in collaboration with renowned groups such as the Argovia Philharmonic, Black Dyke Band, European Union Youth Wind Orchestra, Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and the Singapore Chinese Orchestra.

As a guest conductor, Mr Wang has conducted some of the most prominent groups in Singapore, such as the Singapore Wind Symphony, The Philharmonic Winds and Orchestra Collective. In Europe, he has also been invited to conduct regularly, including the Sinfonisches Verbandsblasorchester Markgräflerland and the Benefiz - Musik und Kukltur für andere Orchestra in Germany, and the EVAM Estagio de Verão in Amarante, Portugal. In 2022, he was selected to assist Jukka-Pekka Saraste in the LEAD! project, and conducted concerts held in Helsinki, Tampere and Lahti.

Mr Wang has also been featured regularly at the WBAS Youth Band Festival and the Asia Arts Festival as a clinician and adjudicator. He has led several conducting workshops, including the International Brass Band Summer School, and the Student Conductors' Workshop for the Arts Education Branch, Ministry of Education. In addition, Mr Wang also serves as a board member of the Wind Bands Association of Singapore.

Mr Wang was commissioned as a Senior Military Expert on 1st April 2015 and appointed as the Director of Music of the SAF Ceremonial Band at the age of 24 - one of the youngest in the history of the SAF.
